Ando Drom
Budapest Gypsy Folk Group

The Ando Drom Group plays authentic and contemporary Gypsy music. The leader of the group, Jenő Zsigó, as a Gypsy family guardian, created the opportunity in a Rákospalota, Budapest, childrens club for children and parents from various Gypsy national groups in Hungary to collaborate in bringing their own culture to life. Then, out of the childrens community, formed a group that the children themselves named Andro Drom (On the Road) when in 1984 they were invited to a festival, where the adult-standard singing and dancing troupe met with enormous success.

The unique sound of the Andro Drom is still due to its having members from national groups with diverse song and dance traditions: Lovári, Collár, Gulvári, Kelderás and Romungró.
What makes the music of the Europe-wide famous Andro Drom unique is that, while maintaining ancient traditions, it is music of today.
As well as authentic Gypsy folk music, they play modern urban Gypsy music with their own arrangements and their own compositions, relating the modern concerns of Gypsy people.
